A lot has been reported in the press not long ago concerning the bingo industry being hurt as a consequence of the anti cigarette law in England. Conditions have grown so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded big tax breaks to help keep the businesses alive. But will the web version of this quintessential game provide a reprieve, or will it in no way compare to its land based peer?

Bingo is an ancient game generally played by the "blue rinse" generation. For all that the game of late had witnessed a recent resurgence in appeal with younger members of society opting to visit the bingo halls rather than the bars on a weekend. All this is about to be reversed with the legislating of the smoking ban all over United Kingdom.

Players will no longer be allowed to smoke while dabbing numbers. From the summer of 2007 every public area will not be allowed to permit cigarettes in their locations and this includes Bingo parlors, which are possibly the most favorite places where folks enjoy smoking.

The outcome of the anti cigarette law can already be observed in Scotland where smoking is already not permitted in the bingo parlours. Profits have dropped and the industry is literally fighting for its life. But where did all the players go? Obviously they have not forgotten this enduring game?

The answer is on the web. Players realize that they can gamble on bingo from their computer whilst enjoying a beverage and cig and still have a chance at massive jackpots. This is a recent anomaly and has timed itself just about perfectly with the anti smoking law.

Of course gambling on on the net will never replace the communal portion of heading down to the bingo hall, but for a group of men and women the governing edicts have left a lot of bingo enthusiasts with little option.
